I wanted to let everyone know about the upcoming GOP/ROTHFUS WALKS scheduled for Saturdays August 7th and 14th at 10:00am. These walks are very simple, and very fun – volunteers will be going neighborhood to neighborhood meeting with voters to discuss the importance of the upcoming election, and to drop off literature for our GOP candidates. If you are interested in storming the polls this November, this is one of the most important things you can do! It is a great fun event – like a party in sneakers.

Saturday, August 7th – the PA state-run Victory Campaign; we will be walking Ohio Twp and Aleppo; the walk will begin at 10:00am and we will all be meeting at the Mt. Nebo Rd Park n’ Ride (Exit 68 off I-79).

Saturday, August 14th – the PA state-run Victory Campaign; we will be walking Edgeworth, Sewickley Village, Sewickley Heights, Sewickley Hills, Haysville, Leet, and Bell Acres; the walk will begin at 10:00am and we will be meeting in the parking lot at St James Catholic Church (200 Walnut Street, Sewickley PA, 15143).

Please let me know if you can make either or both of these events – thank you!

Charles Krauthammer recently spoke to the Center for the American Experiment; here is a summary of his comments:

1. Mr. Obama is a very intellectual, charming individual He is not to be underestimated. He is a cool customer who doesn’t show his emotions. It’s very hard to know what’s behind the mask. The taking down of the Clinton dynasty was an amazing accomplishment. The Clintons still do not understand what hit them. Obama was in the perfect place at the perfect time.

2. Obama has political skills comparable to Reagan and Clinton. He has a way of making you think he’s on your side, agreeing with your position, while doing the opposite. Pay no attention to what he SAYS; rather, watch what he DOES!

3. Obama has a ruthless quest for power. He did not come to Washington to make something out of himself, but rather to change everything, including dismantling capitalism. He can’t be straightforward on his ambitions, as the public would not go along. He has a heavy hand, and wants to level the playing field with income redistribution and punishment to the achievers of society. He would like to model the USA to Great Britain or Canada.

4. His three main goals are to control ENERGY, PUBLIC EDUCATION, and NATIONAL HEALTHCARE by the Federal government. He doesn’t care about the auto or financial services industries, but got them as an early bonus. The cap and trade will add costs to everything and stifle growth. Paying for FREE college education is his goal.. Most scary is his healthcare program, because if you make it FREE and add 46,000,000 people to a Medicare-type single-payer system, the costs will go through the roof. The only way to control costs is with massive RATIONING of services, like in Canada . God forbid!

5. He has surrounded himself with mostly far-left academic types. No one around him has ever even run a candy store. But they are going to try and run the auto, financial, banking and other industries. This obviously can’t work in the long run. Obama is not a socialist; rather he’s a far-left secular progressive bent on nothing short of revolution. He ran as a moderate, but will govern from the hard left. Again, watch what he does, not what he says.

6. Obama doesn’t really see himself as President of the United States , but more as a ruler over the world. He sees himself above it all, trying to orchestrate & coordinate various countries and their agendas. He sees moral equivalency in all cultures. His apology tour in Germany and England was a prime example of how he sees America , as an imperialist nation that has been arrogant, rather than a great noble nation that has at times made errors. This is the first President ever who has chastised our allies and appeased our enemies!

7. He is now handing out goodies. He hopes that the bill (and pain) will not come due until after he is reelected in 2012. He would like to blame all problems on Bush from the past, and hopefully his successor in the future. He has a huge ego, and Dr. Krauthammer believes he is a narcissist.

8. Republicans are in the wilderness for a while, but will emerge strong. Republicans are pining for another Reagan, but there will never be another like him. Krauthammer believes Mitt Romney, Tim Pawlenty & Bobby Jindahl (except for his terrible speech in February) are the future of the party. Newt Gingrich is brilliant, but has baggage. Sarah Palin is sincere and intelligent, but needs to really be seriously boning up on facts and info if she is to be a serious candidate in the future.. We need to return to the party of lower taxes, smaller government, personal responsibility, strong national defense, and state’s rights.

9. The current level of spending is irresponsible and outrageous. We are spending trillions that we don’t have. This could lead to hyperinflation, depression or worse. No country has ever spent themselves into prosperity. The media is giving Obama, Reid and Pelosi a pass because they love their agenda. But eventually the bill will come due and people will realize the huge bailouts didn’t work, nor will the stimulus package. These were trillion-dollar payoffs to Obama’s allies, unions and the Congress to placate the left, so he can get support for #4 above.

10. The election was over in mid-September when Lehman brothers failed, fear and panic swept in, we had an unpopular President, and the war was grinding on indefinitely without a clear outcome. The people are in pain, and the mantra of change caused people to act emotionally Any Dem would have won this election; it was surprising it was as close as it was..

11. In 2012, if the unemployment rate is over 10%, Republicans will be swept back into power. If it’s under 8%, the Dems continue to roll. If it’s between 8-10%, it will be a dogfight. It will all be about the economy. I hope this gets you really thinking about what’s happening in Washington and Congress. There is a left-wing revolution going on, according to Krauthammer, and he encourages us to keep the faith and join the loyal resistance.. The work will be hard, but we’re right on most issues and can reclaim our country, before it’s far too late.

Do yourself a long term favor, send this to all who will listen to an intelligent assessment of the big picture. All our futures and children’s futures depend on our good understanding of what is really going on in DC, and our action pursuant to that understanding!! It really IS up to each of us to take individual action!! Start with educating your friends and neighbors!!!

On the speaker:

Dr. Krauthammer is on Fox News. He is an M.D. and a lawyer and is paralyzed from the neck down.   He is a brilliant intellectual, seasoned & articulate. He is forthright and careful in his analysis, and never resorts to emotions or personal insults. He is NOT a fear monger nor an extremist in his comments and views. He is a fiscal conservative, and has received a Pulitzer Prize for writing. He is a frequent contributor to Fox News and writes weekly for the Washington Post.

Election Results

A hearty congratulations to local newcomer Keith Rothfus and his significant victory in yesterday’s primary election for the PA-4 House of Representatives seat!  Keith worked very, very hard and saw the fruits of his labor pay off.  I know that Keith isn’t sitting on his laurels… as of last night, he spent about 2 minutes celebrating his victory, and then went right back to planning strategy with his core team.  I plan to help him out as much as I can in the coming months so that we can all achieve a victory in November, and I hope you will join Team Rothfus, too.  Here is the link to a great article about Keith’s victory.

I don’t have detailed numbers from our Bell Acres precinct yet, but that will come in a later post…

Tom Corbett (Governor), Jim Cawley (Lt. Governor), and Pat Toomey (Senator) all won their bids for nomination to the Republican ticket.

PA General Assembly District 16 was won by write-in; we will have to await the final tally to see who will be our Republican candidate.

Judy Brown and Sue Means won the race to fill two (2) spots for the Member of the women’s Republican State Committee for the 37th District, with Jacqueline Baguet coming in third; the At-Large seat was won by Judy Brown as well.  I am not certain how the filling of these seats works, so more to come on exactly how they settle out.

On the men’s side, Jim Means and Louis Oliverio (who posted on this blog a few days back) won the seats for the Republican State Committee for the 37th District; again, the At-Large seat was won by Judy Brown, with Ed Kress scoring second.  We will see how this settles out.

Total voter turnout across the state was ~25%.

Today is primary day!

Please remember to vote in the primary election TODAY – Tuesday, May 18th.  Polls are open until 8:00pm!

[One of the goals of the Bell Acres GOP blog is to keep BAGOP voters informed about the candidates who will appear on the ballot; if you are a candidate who is interested in having your profile posted on this site, please simply contact me at bellacresgop@gmail.com or post a comment to this page.]

I spoke on the phone this morning with  Louis Oliverio who is running for the Republican State Committee from PA37 Senate District.

Louis is from Upper St Clair and he works as a commercial real estate attorney.  He has been active in local politics and has served on the development committee of the Republican Committee of Allegheny County (RCAC).

State Committee members are elected by Senatorial district, and we will be electing two women and two men.  Louis informs me that there are four men running this year, so the top two vote-getters will be selected to represent us.

This position is an unpaid position, with the requirement to attend three meetings a year, at which the committee endorses candidates and decides where to spend contributions.

From Louis:

My name is Louis Oliverio, and I am running for Republican State Committee in the 37th Senatorial District.  The reason for my campaign is because 2010 is a critical year in our nation’s history.  This is the year when we, as Republicans, must come together to work for Republican victories.  This is the year when we must end one-party rule in Washington, DC, and bring sensible change to Harrisburg.  For these reasons, I am seeking to serve the Republican Party and the Republican voters of this district on State Committee.

My campaign centers on the Three I’s:  INFORM, INVOLVE, IMPLEMENT!  If we do these three things, we will prevail in close elections.  For more information about my campaign, please visit www.votelouis.com or email me at oliverio-louis@msn.com

Republicans must take a stand in 2010, and I am asking you to make this stand with me by voting for Louis Oliverio from Upper St. Clair, for State Committee.  Thank you.

Post-Tea Party Follow Up

Thanks to everyone who signed up for the Bell Acres GOP blog!  I plan to keep the content lively here, with updates coming weekly, and more frequently as we approach Election Day 2010.

If you missed the local Tea Party downtown, you can listen to the ~1 hour of audio here:

I was there and it was a great experience! I strongly encourage you to listen to the audio and hear CL Bryant (former NAACP chapter head), Dale the Electrician (a union member), and Jerry Boyer reading his interpretation of what the Constitution says in modern words.

Also, if there is anyone interested in following up on the Tea Party with some good education on how to be effective with grassroots politics:

The Pittsburgh Tea Party Movement, the Pittsburgh 9.12 Group, Redstate.com, American Majority, The John Hancock Committee for the States, Smart Girl Politics, and other local grassroots groups are co-sponsoring the Pittsburgh Post-Party Summit on April 23rd and 24th.

This is an excellent opportunity for activists all over western Pennsylvania to come together to learn cutting edge techniques for impacting public policy and reclaiming our country. This course offers the tools and training needed to become dramatically more effective advocates for freedom and limited government.

On Friday evening, April 23rd, the Summit will open with a dinner keynoted by Erick Erickson of Redstate.com. Rose Tennent of the Quinn and Rose show will serve as the emcee.

Throughout the day on Saturday, April 24th, there will be multiple workshops on online activism, grassroots organizing and implementing freedom.

The event will be held at the Embassy Suites Pittsburgh Airport, 550 Cherrington Parkway, Coraopolis, PA 15108.

You can find out more information and register online for the conference by visiting: http://summit.americanmajority.org/. You may also register by phone by calling: (540) 338-1251.

And some more:

Now is the time for us to get to work.

It was quite a site around the country last week as thousands of protestors organized and demonstrated their collective frustration with government, national spending, and an elitist political class. With over 150 staff and volunteer members at events across the country, speaking, handing out resources, and connecting with activists, American Majority knows first hand the caliber and passion each of you brings to this movement. But, now that the protests are over, what will you do to implement freedom and fight tyranny in your community?

We are hosting a Post-Party Summit in Pittsburgh to help you answer that question. The Left does not fear our protesting-it fears what we will do next by organizing and becoming a real political force. Let’s make sure we don’t disappoint. The time to organize for a free America is now. Already, the media is beginning to take notice of what we are doing to organize and take back our communities. The Washington Examiner recently wrote, “For those who are not yet involved, the Post-Party Summits political organizing workshops convening in coming weeks in cities around the country would be a great place to get started. Just Google ‘Post-Party Summit.’”

Even the L.A. Times has picked up on our efforts to engage politically, writing, “[Erick] Erickson and [Ned] Ryun are among those calling for more activist and candidate training sessions, and more direct political engagement.” The country is taking notice.

Now is our time. Our time to organize, our time to engage, and our time to win. The Pittsburgh Post-Party Summit will not only train you to win, but will connect you with other activists and future candidates in your area. This event is the beginning of something much larger and we encourage you to be part of this new American Revolution:

http://summit.americanmajority.org/

Tickets are going quickly and space is limited. The price is only $50 for early registrations and $80 at the door. With excellent speakers, our best trainers from around the country, and resources designed specifically for this event, Pittsburgh’s Post-Party Summit promises to be one of the most meaningful things you will do for liberty this year.

We hope to see you there and thank you for all you do.
